How can you help.
As the school is private it receives no funding from the Kenyan government and as such the continued growth and opportunities provided for local children are funded entirely by Mangi, the school fees the parents pay and the donations from people like us. There are many different ways that you can help the school and if you would like to find out more you can contact us by clicking here.
For those of you who like us are regular repeaters to Turtle Bay below are a list of things the school currently requires. This list will be updated regularly so if you are returning and planning to take any items for the school then please use this list as a reference.
As we are growing at such a rapid rate, we need:
Electricity.
- Although some well-wishers donated for electricity, it is yet to be connected. I visited the Kenya Power & Lighting Company recently and they assured me that they will soon electrify Sonneti Academy . At the moment, pupils use pressure lamps to study in the Evening/Night.
Computers.
- We currently employ many people because of the workload. If we could get some computers, then our work would be easier and more accurate. We would also like our pupils to learn how to use computers for their futures.
Stationery and books.
- Most of the pupils come from poor families that cannot afford to buy stationery and exercise books. We always need stationery and books...
Classrooms.
- As the pupil population at the School is growing rapidly (calculations show that we will have 800 pupils soon), we do not have enough classrooms - this may well be our downfall. We badly need more classrooms, so need donations for building blocks, cement, etc..
Land.
- Sonneti Academy is currently built on a one-acre compound. This is very small. The pupils do not have enough ground to play games. We need donations to buy a piece of land close to the school to make a playground.
Sports equipment.
- We need balls, nets and other sport equipment to help us to exploit the young children's talents.
Sponsorship for pupils.
- The school provides free education for a number of underprivileged children but if sponsors can be found those funds can be used for the continued development of the school instead. This will also ensure that these children will get the opportunity of an excellent education and the chance to change their lives forever.
- Most of the pupils from the poor families pass their KCPE Exams in Class Eight. Last year, the top pupil and the five others who followed him could not have joined their Secondary Schools if it were not for the sponsors. What is most painful is when a bright pupil passes his exams but his/her parents cannot afford the Secondary School Fees.
- We urgently need more sponsors.
- Click here to see the testimonials of people who have already sponsored children.
Transport.
- Because Sonneti Academy has a great name in the progress and discipline of pupils, many parents from afar have enrolled their children. Some of the pupils are too young to walk long distances. 25% of the pupils come from afar and they attend classes late due to having to walk.
- We badly need a school bus to transfer children to and from school. The school bus will also help our students with their historical, geographical and other subjects.
- We hope to one day be able to take our students to other educational places like Mt Kilimanjaro, Mt Kenya, Lake Turkana, Lake Victoria and our neighbouring countries, Uganda, Somalia, Tanzania and Ethiopia.
Other requests.
Our list is endless..............
- We need desks, pens, pencils, rubbers, rulers, text books, exercise books, lever arch files, ring binders, teachers utensils etc..............
